In a sharply worded analysis published in The Diplomat, Nazila Jamshidi and Annie Pforzheimer warn that the Taliban’s education policies are turning Afghanistan into a breeding ground for future extremism.
According to the authors, the ban on girls’ education and the replacement of schools with religious madrassas are two sides of the same dangerous strategy:
- Girls are pushed toward forced early marriage and premature motherhood.
- Boys are indoctrinated in an ideological education system, preparing them to serve in the “Taliban’s ideological army.”
This policy not only constitutes a blatant violation of women’s rights but also lays the foundation for future violence and instability.
The authors stress that separating security concerns from human rights is a strategic mistake by the international community. They warn that any engagement with the Taliban in the hope of countering ISIS effectively grants legitimacy to a regime built on gender apartheid.
From their perspective, supporting the rights of Afghan women is not merely a moral obligation; it is a cornerstone of global security. Because:
Every girl deprived of education erases a chance for peace;
And every boy trained in this ideological system is a potential security threat to the world.
