The United Kingdom’s diplomatic mission for Afghanistan has stated that with the beginning of the new academic year of the country, an additional 400,000 girls in the country will be deprived of education.

In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, March 23, 2025, the UK mission for Afghanistan announced that this latest restriction will increase the total number of girls deprived of education to 2.2 million.

The mission emphasized that the continued denial of education to girls is a catastrophe for both the individuals affected and the country as a whole.

Reiterating that education is a right, not a privilege, the UK mission urged the Taliban to lift the ban on girls’ education.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that the Taliban have prohibited girls above the sixth grade from attending school.

Yesterday, Amnesty International also reiterated that the Taliban’s ban on girls’ education remains unjustifiable as the new academic year begins.
