LIDA MUBAREZ
Age: 28
Place of Birth: Afghanistan
Status: Journalist, Human Rights Defender, Active Member of the Afghanistan Women’s Justice Movement — At Immediate Risk of Persecution and Arrest
Introduction
Lida Mubarez(Alias) is a voice that has resonated for years from microphones, studios, and the streets of Afghanistan — not only as a journalist but also as a courageous defender of women’s rights and social justice. Even when her pen and microphone were taken away, she continued to speak out, defying threats and persecution.
As an active member of the Afghan Women’s Justice Movement, Lida stands as a symbol of intellectual, cultural, and political resistance of Afghan women against a system of oppression.
Story of Resistance
Lida, a graduate in midwifery with an extensive media background (including Ayena TV, Batur TV, Armaghan Radio, and Ghazal Radio), has for years amplified the voices of silenced and marginalized Afghan women through her social, cultural, and political programs.
Alongside her journalism, she worked with civil society and international organizations (including ACTED, APARDO, Geneva Researcher) and served within the Women’s Council of the National Movement Party. She has spoken at civic gatherings and human rights forums as an advocate for Afghan women.
This path, however, has been marked by constant danger.
After the fall of the Republic in 2021, Lida became a direct target of Taliban threats, surveillance, and violence due to her media work and her role in women’s protest movements. She has been forced into hiding, displacement, and repeated flight from her home. She has endured arrest, death threats, and deportation from neighboring countries.
Current Situation (September 2025): Lida lives in displacement and extreme insecurity — under ongoing threat from the Taliban regime and without access to stable legal or protective support.
Lida Mubarez’s Message
“I am one of those women who raised my voice louder when the walls closed in.
When the microphones were silenced, I lifted placards with my own hands.
When the streets were filled with fear, I stood hand in hand with my sisters.
I do not seek awards — I seek survival.
Not only for myself, but for every girl whose dreams have been covered to keep her silent.
Help us so that our voices are not extinguished.”
Urgent Call for Support
Lida and her family are in urgent need of multi-dimensional support:
- Legal Assistance: To prevent arrest by the Taliban and to facilitate asylum in a safe country.
- Financial Assistance: To cover basic living expenses, psychological care (treatment for trauma caused by persecution and threats), as well as communication and security costs.
