The Afghanistan Women’s Justice Movement is an independent and grassroots human rights organization committed to the advancement and protection of women’s rights in Afghanistan. Founded in response to the systemic oppression and marginalization of women, the movement works tirelessly to combat gender-based violence, challenge discriminatory laws and practices, and amplify the voices of Afghan women both within the country and in the diaspora. Through advocacy, legal support, public awareness campaigns, and international engagement, the movement strives to build a just and equitable society where women can live with dignity, freedom, and full participation in all aspects of life.
The Afghanistan Women’s Justice Movement was born out of a profound crisis. On August 15, 2021, when the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, the fragile progress made over two decades toward women’s rights and civil liberties was abruptly reversed. In the days and months that followed, Afghan women were systematically stripped of their basic freedoms — barred from education, employment, public life, and even movement without a male guardian. Civil society was silenced, activists were threatened, and the voices of women were pushed into the shadows.
In response to this devastating turn of events, a group of courageous Afghan women — activists, lawyers, students, teachers, and professionals — came together in defiance of fear and repression. Refusing to remain silent, they formed the Afghanistan Women’s Justice Movement to resist the erasure of women from society. Today, this movement serves as a powerful platform for advocacy, resistance, and hope — working tirelessly to defend human rights, amplify women’s voices, and demand justice in the face of oppression.
We strive to build a free, aware, and independent society.
