With hearts heavy with sorrow and a sea of grief, the Afghanistan Women’s Justice Movement announces the sudden and tragic passing of Ustad Zaman Khan – a gifted poet, courageous thinker, and tireless advocate for civil society – in the land of exile and migration, Pakistan, to the cultural community of Afghanistan and the world. This loss is a deep wound to the body of our culture and pursuit of justice.
Ustad Zaman Khan, like a star in the dark sky of oppression and injustice, never ceased to shine. Throughout years filled with the suffering of war, migration, and discrimination, he kept aflame the torch of hope, resistance, and awakening with his magical pen, fiery words, and meaningful presence. He was the voice of the voiceless; his words reflected the cries of the suffering and the suppressed aspirations of Afghan women and men. His life and death are a mirror to the fate of thousands of exiled intellectuals who, in the silence of exile, dedicate their lives to human values, freedom, and justice.
The Afghanistan Women’s Justice Movement extends its heartfelt condolences to the noble family of the late Ustad Zaman Khan, his cultural and literary companions, fellow advocates of justice, and all institutions defending freedom and human dignity around the world.
We believe that Ustad Zaman Khan’s legacy – his radiant ideas and luminous path – will remain eternal and continue to inspire generations who fight with passion and sacrifice for freedom, equality, and social justice.
May his soul rest in eternal peace, his memory remain alive, and his message shine like a jewel in history.
