Kabul: The Taliban’s Supreme Court announced that six individuals in Paktia province were publicly flogged on charges of “sodomy” and theft.

In a statement released on Thursday, August 28, the court said these individuals were sentenced by the group’s military court. The sentences included one to three years in prison and 20 to 39 lashes.

Just a day earlier, the Taliban carried out similar punishments against seven people in Ghor province.

Despite widespread international condemnation, the Taliban’s practice of summary trials and public floggings continues unabated.
