Local sources in Kabul report that the Taliban have detained dozens of women and young girls from the Shahr-e-Naw area and transferred them to detention facilities of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue.

One relative of the detainees, speaking on Thursday, July 17, said the Taliban detained over 100 women from streets, markets, and even hospitals, and took them away.

According to local sources, the Taliban have not yet provided any explanation for these arrests. A video sent to the media shows several women surrounded by Taliban forces, screaming in fear and protesting against this treatment.

Sources also stated that some of the detained women were released after spending a night in custody, on the guarantee of their families.

This comes as, in recent days, Taliban officers of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue have raided restaurants and public places in Shahr-e-Naw, forcing women to completely cover their faces.
