The International Cricket Council (ICC) has established a special working group to support Afghan women cricketers in exile. Cricket boards from India, Australia, and England and Wales will collaborate on this initiative.

The group will assist the players in their professional and personal development. A dedicated fund will provide direct financial support to ensure these athletes can continue their cricket careers.

ICC Chair Jay Shah reaffirmed the council’s commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunities for all cricketers.

Since the Taliban banned women’s sports in Afghanistan, most former national women players now live in exile in countries like Australia, Canada, and the UK. Despite criticism, the ICC has declined to sanction Afghanistan’s men’s team, emphasizing that athletes should not be punished for political reasons.
