The Washington Post has reported that the Taliban regime’s recent decision to shut down fiber-optic internet in Afghanistan amounts to severing the vital lifelines of the country’s women and girls.
According to the report, this move could create serious challenges, particularly for women and girls who depend on online education and remote work.
Taliban officials have confirmed that after internet access was cut in at least ten provinces, tens of thousands of people—including women studying online—have been left without support.
As a result, virtual communication, participation in online classes, and access to news in these provinces have become increasingly difficult.
At the same time, reports indicate that banking systems in these areas are also facing severe disruptions.
