The Taliban’s Supreme Court has announced that three women and two men were publicly flogged in a sports stadium in Parwan province.
According to the court’s statement, two women and one man were accused of “adultery,” while one man and one woman were charged with having “illicit relations.”
The statement said that the punishments were carried out on Tuesday, 27 Qaws, following verdicts issued by the provincial appellate and primary courts, as well as the district court of Salang.
According to the Taliban’s announcement, one person received 30 lashes, while the other four were each given 39 lashes.
In addition to flogging, two of the accused were sentenced to three years in prison, one to two years, and another to six years of imprisonment. One person was only flogged and not imprisoned.
