The Afghanistan Women’s Justice Movement (AWJM), as part of the united and courageous voice of Afghanistan’s women protesters and justice seekers, declares its full support for the judicial process launched by the Spanish court against the perpetrators and supporters of crimes committed in Afghanistan.
We regard this legal initiative not only as a historic step toward global justice, but also as a beacon of hope for all Afghan women who, in recent years, have suffered in silence, isolation, and imprisonment under the Taliban’s misogynistic and inhumane rule.
Afghan women—the first and primary victims of the Taliban’s return to power—have been deprived of their most basic human rights: the right to education, employment, healthcare, freedom of movement, and social participation. Alongside other victims, including ethnic and religious minorities, former security personnel, journalists, civil and cultural activists, and internally displaced persons, we demand the effective, independent, and impartial prosecution of all those responsible for these crimes before international courts.
We call upon the Government of Spain, the European Union, and all international human rights institutions to:
- Continue the judicial process against the Taliban and their supporters without political considerations;
- Ensure the safe participation of victims—especially women and minorities—in this process;
- Refrain from any engagement or deal with the Taliban that would grant them political or financial legitimacy;
- Provide legal, psychological, and security support to the victims involved in this case;
- Strengthen cooperation between the Spanish court and the International Criminal Court (ICC).
We affirm that justice is the foundation of lasting peace and the only path toward the restoration of human dignity in our society. Without the voices of victims—especially women—being heard, there can be no just or humane future for Afghanistan.
The Afghan Women’s Justice Movement stands firmly with all institutions and organizations pursuing this cause of justice and believes that the triumph of justice is the triumph of humanity.
