Solidarity of Women at the Islam Qala Border: Hygiene Kits Distributed to Afghan Women Returning from Iran

2 Min Read

As thousands of Afghan migrants return from Iran, a group of female volunteers gathered at the Islam Qala border crossing in Herat to distribute hygiene kits to the returning women.

This initiative aimed to support women who, after being forcibly deported from Iran, arrive back at the border under harsh conditions and without sufficient access to basic services.

Many returnees at border crossings, including Islam Qala, face severe shortages of hygiene supplies, food, and drinking water.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has also stated that Afghan migrants deported from Iran are in urgent need of healthcare services.

According to the organization, large numbers of mothers, children, and elderly people remain homeless at Afghanistan’s borders and suffer from illnesses such as wounds, infections, dehydration, and malnutrition.

WHO added that it needs a $2 million budget over the next three months to meet the health care needs of the returnees.

In recent weeks, Iran has expelled thousands of Afghan migrants from its territory, and this process continues on a daily basis.

According to United Nations data, from April until now, more than 836,000 people have entered Afghanistan through the Islam Qala, Torkham, Milak, and Spin Boldak border crossings.
