Coinciding with April 23, World Book Day, Afghan journalist Nawida Khushboo wrote on her X (formerly Twitter) account that the Taliban have banned the publication and distribution of two of her books.

Khushboo stated that her book “Siyasi Jaj” (Political Judge) was rejected by the Taliban for allegedly being “against national interests.” Her second book, a collection of traditional folk songs for children, remains in the printing press and has not been granted permission for publication.

This comes amid increasing restrictions by the Taliban on Afghan writers and intellectuals. In recent months, the Taliban have limited the publication of several works by Afghan authors.

Previously, the Taliban had also removed hundreds of book titles from libraries and bookstores, declaring their distribution and publication banned.
