Johann Wadephul, Germany’s Foreign Minister, has expressed concern over the human rights situation of Afghans under Taliban rule.
According to a Reuters report on Thursday, July 10, Wadephul voiced these concerns during a meeting in Vienna, Austria.
He stated: “There are serious concerns about the humanitarian situation, the human rights situation in Afghanistan, and especially the situation of women and girls.”
The new German Foreign Minister noted that he shares these concerns with the Taliban.
He also emphasized that their contact with the Taliban is limited to technical cooperation and does not go beyond that.
Wadephul further stated that they will continue to monitor the human rights situation in Afghanistan.
This comes as, recently, Germany’s Interior Minister had called for direct talks with the Taliban regarding the deportation of Afghan refugees.
