Amnesty International, marking the start of the new academic year in Afghanistan, has stated that the Taliban’s ban on girls’ education is unjustifiable.
On Saturday, March 22, 2025, Amnesty International posted a message on X (formerly Twitter), noting that the new academic year has begun in Afghanistan, yet girls above the sixth grade remain barred from education.
The organization emphasized that this ban is unjustifiable and constitutes a violation of fundamental human rights.
Amnesty International further asserted that the Taliban must allow girls of all ages to attend school and abandon their cynical excuses for advancing a discriminatory agenda.
The organization has called on people worldwide to sign a petition to hold the Taliban accountable through the international community.
Since seizing control of Afghanistan, the Taliban have imposed widespread restrictions on women, depriving girls above the sixth grade of access to schooling.
This marks the fourth academic year in the country to commence without the presence of girls in schools.
