On the occasion of World Health Day, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that in Afghanistan, one woman dies every two minutes due to complications during pregnancy or childbirth.
In a message shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) page on Monday (April 8), the organization called on the international community and its partners to help ensure equal and fair access to healthcare services across Afghanistan.
The WHO Representative in Afghanistan emphasized the organization’s focus on ensuring “a healthy start and a hopeful future” through universal health coverage.
Highlighting the urgent needs of millions of Afghans for care and support, he stressed the importance of building effective, high-quality healthcare systems for all—especially for women and children.
